My Story
My name’s Verity Bell and I’ve been teaching English for over twenty years. Here’s how I became an online GCSE English tutor:
Verity always strives to create lessons that are enjoyable and makes them as diverse as possible so that we do something different each time.’

How it all started
I spent many happy years teaching English as a foreign language in Italy and the UK. Above all, this experience taught me that learning should be fun and accessible. This is why my lessons are always engaging, and my explanations are always clear.

I hope to see you soon.
Verity
I’d definitely recommend Verity as a tutor. She’s a very welcoming person, who always strives to do her best to help her students.

I went on to use my knowledge of the English language to publish books. I worked as a content editor, helping teacher-authors to adapt their lessons so they best met the needs of the students and teachers buying the books.
But I missed the classroom, so I decided to teach English to 11-18 year olds in English secondary schools.
Teaching isn’t an easy job, but it’s wonderful when students are fully engaged, and all offering their ideas on a piece of English writing.
I love igniting their enthusiasm, gaining their trust and seeing their confidence in their abilities grow. My teaching style has been described as highly ‘interactive’ by my students because I do my best to guide them to a conclusion and to use the tools that they have.
I enjoy Verity’s lessons. She’s good at explaining, and is never judgemental when giving you criticisms or points to improve on.

Now I’m using my passion for teaching to offer online GCSE English small group programmes.
When I taught in school, it was very challenging to give every student the detailed feedback they needed to progress.
With a maximum of ten students in each of my groups, it’s now possible for me to give personalised feedback to each student, both in my live online lessons, and in between, in the form of recorded videos, emailed to my students.
It’s a great way of teaching and learning: your child will make rapid progress thanks to:
Flexible access to pre-recorded, high quality online lessons in which I explain key concepts,
A supportive small group environment
Personalised frequent feedback from myself.
It’s a focused and efficient way of learning, which gets results. Which is why I love tutoring English. It’s what I do best.
The thing is...
It’s a competitive world out there, and with a little extra work and focus, it really is not that difficult to transform an English grade from ‘just’ a pass, to a grade that will help your child to stand head and shoulders above their peers.
The Benefits
With consistent work and the right help, your child can learn to:
- Use sophisticated sentence structure for impact.
- Select the best quotes to make their point.
- Use language creatively, precisely and engagingly.
- Analyse language critically and eloquently.
Which is what I have taught many English students to do and they were delighted with their results. My students have gone onto:
- Excel in their chosen A levels (because their written communication is so on point).
- Write succinct and compelling UCAS applications that secure them their dream university offer.
- Become brilliant communicators who can access a range of job opportunities.
